Refund Settings Guide

Actualizado el 18 de junio de 2026

Refund settings control how refunds are dated in your reports and how restocked items affect your costs. Refunds always reduce Net Profit by their full amount — that is not configurable. These settings are per shop and only change how existing data is displayed; nothing is re-imported from Shopify. You find them on the Order Events tab of a shop's settings.

Refund Date Attribution#

Choose how refund amounts are dated in your reports:

  • Processing date (default) -- The refund appears on the date it was processed. This shows the actual cash flow impact on each day.
  • Original order date -- The refund is attributed back to the date of the original order. This retroactively adjusts the profitability of the day the order was placed.

Which to Pick#

You mostly care about...Use
Daily cash flow and actual performance per dayProcessing date
The true profit of orders placed on a given dayOriginal order date

Example: An order placed on March 1 is refunded on March 15.

  • With Processing date, March 1 still looks like a fully profitable day. The refund shows up on March 15 as a cost against that day's revenue.
  • With Original order date, March 15 shows normal activity, and March 1's numbers are retroactively lowered to account for the later refund.

Changing this setting only changes how data is displayed -- it is safe to switch between the two.

COGS Recovery on Restock#

When a refunded item is returned to your inventory, you can have its product cost added back to your Gross Profit, because that stock can be resold. This is controlled by the Deduct returned COGS option on the Profit Rules tab (not on this Order Events tab), using each item's restock status from Shopify. For the full explanation of how it works, where it appears in your reports, and how to turn it on, see COGS Restocked Explained.
