How to Add Country-Specific Costs (Cost Zones)
Aggiornato il 20 luglio 2026
Cost zones let a product cost different amounts depending on the country an order ships to. Use them when fulfillment differs by region, e.g. EU orders ship from a local warehouse at a lower unit cost than US orders.
How Zones Work#
A zone is a named group of countries, e.g. "European Union". Costs you set in a zone apply to orders shipping to those countries. Orders to countries that are in no zone use your default costs. You only need to override the products that actually differ; everything else is inherited from the default zone automatically.
Create a Zone#
- Open Product Costs.
- In the zone tab row above the table, click Edit.
- Click Add zone, type a Zone name, and pick the Countries. Choosing a region preset, e.g. North America, selects its countries and names the zone for you.
- Click Save.
The screenshot shows two zones: European Union with its member countries, and United Kingdom. A country can only belong to one zone.
Set Zone Costs#
- Click the zone's tab above the table, e.g. European Union. The whole table now shows that zone's costs.
- Edit costs exactly as usual (see How to Add Product Costs): type into a product or variant row and save with Apply or Apply All.
With a zone selected, the Coverage column counts that zone's own costs, so 1/2 means one of two variants has a zone-specific cost. Products without any zone cost show the default cost as a grayed placeholder.
Expanding a product makes the difference visible: in the screenshot, the Oat variant has an EU-specific cost of $33.50, while the Graphite variant shows the default cost as a grayed placeholder with the hint "Inherited from the default zone": it has no override yet and keeps using the default cost.
To remove an override, click the undo icon next to it (Revert to default cost); the variant goes back to inheriting the default.
Good to Know#
Shopify-synced costs always apply to the default zone. Zones without their own cost inherit them.
The price change editor also works per zone: a zone selector in its header switches which zone's timeline you are editing. See How to Add Cost Changes Over Time (Price Changes).
Deleting a zone removes its cost overrides, and affected orders are recalculated with default costs. The confirmation tells you how many costs the zone holds before you delete it. If past orders should keep their zone costs, keep the zone.
Example#
You sell a blanket for $129. Your US warehouse pays $38.00 per unit, but your EU warehouse pays $33.50. Create a "European Union" zone, switch to its tab, and set the blanket's cost to $33.50. A Berlin order is now calculated with $33.50, while a Chicago order keeps $38.00.
