Why Is the Pixel Not Recording?

Updated October 2, 2026

Find the symptom you see below. Each one names the cause and the fix. The status of a store on the Attribution page tells you where to start.

The store still shows Permission required after I approved in Shopify. The approval can take a moment to arrive. Reload the page after a minute. If it stays, click Update permissions again and check that Order attribution pixel and Customer events are both switched on before you click the request button.

I clicked Update permissions and nothing happened. The dialog was closed before the request was sent. Open it again, click the request button and approve in Shopify.

The message "Failed to update tracking" appears. The pixel could not be added to or removed from your store. Try again after a minute. If it keeps failing, contact support.

The status stays at Waiting for first event. Check these in order:

CheckFix
Nobody visited the storefront yetClick Live events, then Open store, and load a page
Your own browser blocks the pixelTurn off your ad blocker for the test, or use another browser
You declined the consent banner of your own storeAccept analytics and marketing in the banner and reload the page
Allowed domains does not contain your domainClick the gear and add the domain, or remove all domains
The last event is more than 7 days oldThe status goes back to Waiting for first event then. A new visit changes it

The status is No recent events. The pixel is on, and no event arrived for more than 24 hours. If your store had visitors in that time, turn the switch off and on again: this adds the pixel to your storefront again.

Live events shows visits, but an order has no touchpoint from the pixel. Wait 15 to 30 minutes after the order. If it is still missing, the buyer was not recorded on the way to that order: see What the Pixel Changes in Your Reports. The order keeps the attribution from Shopify's data.

The pixel is on, but a campaign shows no Revenue. The pixel records links, it does not create campaign matches by itself. Check that the ad links carry tracking parameters and that the ad account is connected, see UTM Tracking for Ad Attribution.

If it still does not work, contact support and send the store name, the order number, and the time of a test visit you made.
