How Several Shipping Rules Combine on One Order

Updated October 2, 2026

When more than one shipping rule matches an order, Profitario first picks one rule per item and then combines the rules of the order the way the setting Multi-item shipping says.

Which Rule an Item Gets#

One rule per item. For every item of an order, Profitario picks one rule: the one with the highest level that matches. A rule for a product (Level 5) beats a rule for a product tag (Level 4), which beats a country rule (Level 2), which beats All orders (Level 1). Within one scope, a rule that is limited to countries beats a rule without that limit. Between two rules that are otherwise equal, the higher Priority wins, then the older rule. The amount plays no role: a more specific rule wins even when it is cheaper.

The same rule counts once. When all items of an order end up with the same rule, the order gets that rule's cost once. With Tiered rules, the items that share a rule are counted or weighed together.

Multi-Item Shipping#

When items of one order end up with different rules, the setting Multi-item shipping decides. Click Settings on the Shipping page:

Multi-Item Shipping

Example. A store has an All orders rule of $4.80 per order and a rule for one bulky product of $12.00 per order. An order contains the bulky product and a second, ordinary item.

Multi-item shippingShipping cost of the order
Sum all items$12.00 + $4.80 = $16.80
Highest only$12.00
Lowest only$4.80

An order with only the bulky product costs $12.00 with every option, because no item uses the All orders rule.

Orders with tags is different. A rule with the scope Orders with tags is not picked per item. It is calculated once for the whole order and then combined with the rules of the items, in the way Multi-item shipping says. With Sum all items, a $3.00 rule for the order tag "express" and a $4.80 All orders rule give $7.80 for a tagged order.

Multi-item shipping only combines rules. Carrier costs, label costs and the amount the customer paid replace all rules and are never reduced to the highest or lowest.
