Connect Google Ads
Updated October 5, 2026
Connect Google Ads so the daily spend of your Google Ads accounts is deducted in your profit. You need this if you advertise on Google, directly or through a manager account, and want your dashboard to show profit after ad costs.
- Where
- In the sidebar, open Integrations, then Google Ads
- Who
- Owners, admins and members with access to the whole account. Viewers and members limited to single stores cannot connect. You also need a Google account that can open your Google Ads accounts
- Time
- About 2 minutes to connect. The first import then runs in the background
- Updates
- Ad spend is imported every night and each time you open a shop's dashboard. The first import goes back up to 36 months
What Is Imported#
For every Google Ads account you select, Profitario imports one row per day and campaign:
| Data | Where you see it |
|---|---|
| Spend | Ad Spend on the dashboard, line Google Ads, and Reports > Ad Spend in a shop |
| Impressions and clicks | Reports > Ad Spend |
| Conversions and all conversions, as Google counts them | Reports > Ad Spend, columns Conversions and All Conv. |
| Campaigns with their names, status and daily budget | Reports > Ad Spend |
| Ad groups and ads | Reports > Ad Spend: click a campaign. Google's ad groups are listed there under Ad sets |
Profitario only reads from your Google Ads accounts. It never changes a campaign, a budget or an ad.
All campaign types. Every campaign type is included, for example Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns. Spend is imported per campaign and day.
How far back. The first import of a Google Ads account covers up to 36 months before the day you start it.
How often. Each selected account is updated once a night, at about 1:00 in the time zone of its shop, and again whenever you open that shop's dashboard or click Refresh there. Every update fetches the days from the day before the last successful update until today.
The nightly update runs for accounts with a paid subscription or with activity in the last 30 days. If nobody has opened Profitario for longer, the spend catches up the next time you open the dashboard.
Before You Start#
- At least one Shopify store is installed in Profitario. Without one, Connect Integration is disabled and shows Connect a Shopify store before adding integrations.
- You can sign in to Google with the Google account you use for Google Ads. It needs access to the Google Ads accounts you want to import, either directly or through a manager account (often called MCC: one Google Ads account that manages several client accounts).
Connect Google Ads#
The connection takes ten actions, from the first click to the spend on your dashboard. One of them happens at Google.

What Google Asks For
The third picture of the flow is a summary, not Google's screen, which can look different. At Google you choose a Google account and allow what Profitario may access. Google words the permissions in its own way and shows this screen at every connect, also when you reconnect. Profitario asks for two:
| Access | Why Profitario asks for it |
|---|---|
| Your Google Ads accounts and data | Spend, impressions, clicks, conversions and the names of your campaigns, ad groups and ads. Profitario only reads. It never changes a campaign, a budget or an ad |
| Your email address | Shows which Google account a connection belongs to |
- Which Google account. Choose the Google account you sign in to Google Ads with. Profitario sees every Google Ads account this Google account can open, plus the client accounts of every manager account it can open.
- Permissions. If Google shows a checkbox next to a permission, tick it. Without the Google Ads permission, Profitario cannot read your accounts: the setup page shows Failed to fetch accounts and asks you to sign in again.
- Accounts. You do not pick Google Ads accounts at Google. You choose them in Profitario, on the page Set up Google Ads.
- Cancelling. If the access is not allowed or the sign-in does not complete, you see Failed to connect to Google Ads back in Profitario. Nothing was connected. Click Try Again.
On the Setup Page
Manager accounts. The page Set up Google Ads lists the Google Ads accounts your Google account can reach:
- Client accounts are listed, the manager account is not. You see every client account below your manager accounts, also the ones below a manager account inside another one. The manager account itself has no list entry.
- No direct access needed. Profitario reads a client account through its manager account. You do not need to be a user of each client account.
- Each account once. An account you can open both directly and through a manager account appears once.
- Closed client accounts are not listed.
A shop for every ticked account. The spend of an account is deducted in the shop you pick in the Store column. If a ticked account has no shop, Start Import shows Please assign a shop to all enabled accounts before importing.
Currency. The Currency column shows the currency the Google Ads account is billed in. There is nothing to select here. If the shop you assigned uses a different currency, the column shows both, for example EUR → USD: with Start Import, the shop's currency becomes the target currency of the account, and Profitario converts the spend with the exchange rate of each day. In the flow, Nordwind Outlet EU is billed in EUR and assigned to a USD shop, so its spend is converted.
Account ID. The Google Ads customer ID, ten digits without dashes (Google Ads shows the same number as 998-000-1230).
Skip. Leaves the page without importing anything.
What Happens Next#
- First import. It covers up to 36 months before the day you start it and runs in the background. The more campaigns and history an account has, the longer it takes.
- While it runs. After Start Import you see Setup complete! and return to the Google Ads page. An account that reads Processing has its controls locked, and the Update button in the header shows the Google icon. You can leave the page.
- Dashboard and reports. The spend appears as soon as the import of an account is done, for every day of the imported period. Nothing has to be recalculated. The spend per campaign is in Reports > Ad Spend.
- Updates. From then on the account is updated every night and each time you open the dashboard of its shop.
- Next: track orders from your ads. Spend alone does not say which orders an ad brought. Add URL parameters to your Google ads so Profitario can match each order to its ad, see Add UTM Parameters to Google Ads.
Manage Your Google Ads Accounts#
After connecting, the Google Ads page lists every imported account.

Target Currency. Profitario deducts the spend in the currency of the shop. The setup page sets the conversion for you. If the status reads Wrong Currency, for example after you moved the account to a shop with another currency, open the actions menu, click Target Currency, pick the shop's currency and click Save. The spend already imported is converted again in the background, each day with the rate of that day. Example: €200.00 spent on a day with a rate of 1 EUR = 1.17 USD counts as €200.00 × 1.17 = $234.00.
Restart Import. Turn on Full Import in the dialog and click Start Import to fetch the complete history of the account again, up to 36 months. Use it when days are missing in the middle of the imported period, or when the numbers of older days changed in Google Ads after they were imported. Spend that is already in Profitario is not counted twice.
To work with the Google sign-in itself, click Manage Connections in the top right corner of the Google Ads page. Each row is one Google account you connected with.

To add accounts that only a different Google account can open, click Connect Integration again and choose that Google account at Google. Each Google account becomes its own row under Manage Connections.
Do I Have to Renew the Connection?#
No. Profitario renews its access to Google by itself. There is nothing to renew on a schedule.
Profitario also notices when you can reach a Google Ads account only through a manager account anymore, for example after your direct access to it was removed, and switches to the manager account by itself. You do not have to do anything.
You only have to act when Google ends the access:
| What happened | What you see | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You removed Profitario's access in your Google account, or Google declared the access invalid | Notification Integration expired, status Expired on all accounts of that Google account, and the bar Ad spend is missing on the dashboard | Reconnect |
| Your Google account lost access to one Google Ads account, directly and through every manager account | Notification Ad account access lost, status Expired on that account only | Get access to the account again in Google Ads. Then click Sync Accounts under Manage Connections and, on the setup page, Skip |
| The Google Ads account is deactivated or not yet enabled in Google Ads | Notification Ad account unavailable, status Expired on that account only | Reactivate the account in Google Ads. Reconnecting does not help. Then click Sync Accounts and, on the setup page, Skip |
| The Google Ads permission was not granted while signing in | The Google Ads connection is missing required permissions. | Reconnect and tick every permission at Google |
To reconnect, click Reconnect in the bar on the dashboard, or open the Google Ads page and click Connect Integration. Choose the same Google account as before. On the setup page your existing accounts are listed unticked: click Skip. They keep their shop and their history.
The gap is filled automatically. After a reconnect with the same Google account, or after Sync Accounts, the next update imports every day since the last successful update, so the days without access are added. The next update runs when you open the dashboard, or during the night.
If you reconnect with a different Google account, tick the accounts on the setup page and click Start Import. This imports their full history again. Spend that is already in Profitario is not counted twice.
Limits#
- History. At most 36 months back.
- One shop per account. A Google Ads account cannot be split between two shops.
- New accounts. Accounts you create or get access to later are not added automatically. Use Sync Accounts.
- Days follow the Google Ads account. Google reports spend per day in the time zone of the Google Ads account. If your shop uses another time zone, the ad spend of a day and the orders of that day cover slightly different hours.
- Later corrections by Google. An update fetches the days since the last update. If the numbers of an older day change in Google Ads afterwards, the change is not picked up. To import the full history again, use Restart Import with Full Import turned on.
- Revenue and ROAS. The Revenue and ROAS columns in Reports > Ad Spend come from Profitario's own attribution of your orders, not from Google's conversion values. To get them, tag your ads, see Tag Your Ad Links for Attribution.
Troubleshooting#
| What you see | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Connect Integration is greyed out | No Shopify store is installed in Profitario | Install Profitario on your Shopify store first |
| Failed to connect to Google Ads after returning from Google | The access was not allowed, or the connection could not be completed | Click Try Again |
| Failed to fetch accounts and the dialog Reauthentication required | The Google Ads permission is missing, or the connection has expired | Click Continue to Google Ads, choose your Google account and tick every permission |
| No accounts found on the setup page | The Google account you chose cannot open any Google Ads account | Connect again and choose the Google account you sign in to Google Ads with |
| An account is missing from the setup page | It is a manager account, it is closed, it was added after you connected, or only another Google account can open it | Import its client accounts, use Manage Connections > Sync Accounts, or connect the other Google account |
| Please assign a shop to all enabled accounts before importing. | A ticked account has no shop | Pick a shop in the Store column, or untick the account |
| Status Wrong Currency | The account's currency differs from its shop's currency and no matching target currency is set | Set the Target Currency, see above |
| Status Expired, or the bar Ad spend is missing on the dashboard | Google ended the access | See Do I Have to Renew the Connection? above |
| The account is connected but the dashboard shows no or different ad spend | Several possible causes | See Why Is My Ad Spend Not Showing or Incorrect? |
