Get Started with Profitario
Updated October 8, 2026
Profitario already knows what you sold: your orders come in from Shopify on their own. What it cannot know is what those orders cost you. This page walks through everything you can set up, what each part does and where to read more. You do not need all of it. Pick what fits your store.
- Where
- Each setup has its own page in the sidebar. The Setup guide at the bottom left tracks your progress and takes you there
- Who
- Everyone who has just installed Profitario
- Updates
- After each setup, the affected orders are recalculated in the background
Where to Start#
If you only have a few minutes, do these five. They change the profit of almost every store.
- Product costs. Usually your largest cost. Without it, profit is too high on every order.
- Shipping costs. Paid on almost every order.
- Payment fees. Shopify Payments is covered. PayPal, Stripe and other gateways are not.
- Ad accounts. If you run ads, connect them under Integrations. Your spend is then imported and taken out of profit.
- Recurring expenses. Apps, subscriptions and salaries are not in Shopify at all.
Everything else depends on how your business runs. Come back to it later.
Product Costs#
What you pay for one unit of each item you sell. An order without a product cost counts with a cost of zero, so its whole margin shows up as profit. That is why this is the one setup every store needs.
You do not have to type every cost. Profitario can read the cost you keep in Shopify, take the real cost per order from your supplier, or estimate from a margin until you have real numbers. You can mix these per product.
In the sidebar, open Product Costs.
Shipping Costs#
What you pay to ship an order, which is rarely what the customer paid at checkout. Set a flat cost per order, rates per country or weight, or connect your shipping tool and get the real cost of each parcel.
In the sidebar, open Shipping under Costs. Shopify shipping labels are turned on in the page's Settings. Shipping tools are connected under Integrations.
Fees and Taxes#
Payment fees. Fees from Shopify Payments are imported with every order. Connect PayPal or Stripe to get their real fees too. For any other gateway, add a fee rule on the Transaction Fees page.
Tax. Profitario takes tax out of revenue before profit. It can use the tax on each Shopify order, which is right for almost every store, or your own rates per country. If you are in the EU or UK and reclaim VAT on what you buy, you can take that VAT out of your costs as well.
Marketing#
Connect your ad accounts and your spend is imported for you, so profit already includes what you paid for ads. The Profitario pixel goes one step further and shows which campaigns lead to orders.
In the sidebar, open Integrations for ad accounts and Attribution for the pixel.
Finishing Touches#
Recurring expenses. Rent, salaries, software: costs that belong to no single order. Add them under Expenses so they are taken out of profit too.
Profit rules. These decide which orders count toward profit, for example whether unpaid or cancelled orders are included. Most stores keep the defaults, but it is worth one look.
Nice to have. Get your profit by email, or connect Claude or ChatGPT and ask questions about your numbers.
